Leeds Festival of Kindness Compassion & Wellbeing: Launch Day

Leeds City Council launched the Compassionate City Awards in 2018. Leeds City Council’s commitment to being a Compassionate City with a strong economy is part of its vision to be a city of wellbeing where everyone is included. So the Council naturally welcome this initiative whose values and vision are aligned.

Satish Kumar

Satish Kumar grew up as a Jain monk in India and is known as ‘The Peace Pilgrim’ for walking from the grave of Ghandi to the grave of Kennedy in aid of world peace in the early 1960’s. He is also an environmental activist and ecologist who co-founded Schumacher College, was editor of Resurgence Magazine and is the author of several books including “Soil, Soul Society” and “You Are Therefore I Am”. Satish has been a life long practitioner of Compassion.

Gloria explores the idea of being kinder to yourself and what that means in practical terms with her guests. Miranda is a musician, songwriter and mental health campaigner from Leeds. Matt is a Personal Trainer and Director of SitFIT CIC which offers seated exercise classes for an older age group in East Leeds.

Bringing It All BackHome is a music and emotional wellbeing project based in Leeds. Chris is a singer, a songwriter and a guitar player. When he played us the song All The Best we felt we needed to get it recorded and share Chris’s story with the world. It is a song of compassion and love for humanity and his family and friends and the people around him

The Performance Ensemble is an ensemble company of performers over the age of 60 from a range of different performance skills and diverse cultures. The Performance Ensemble has been gathering stories and anecdotes from older people across Leeds for the last 2 years, they plan to collect 1000 by 2023 and are sharing some with us this week.
